WILL SMITH : I'M ALSO BOYCOTTING THE OSCARS THIS YEAR.

 

You won't see Will Smith at the Oscars this year.
He's boycotting the event along with his wife, actress Jada Pinkett Smith, and director Spike Lee, who have already announced they would not attend the Feb. 28 ceremony because of the lack of racial diversity among the acting nominees.

All the contenders in the acting categories this year are white; the same thing happened last year.
Smith, a two-time Oscar contender who was also nominated for a Golden Globe this year for his performance in "Concussion," told "Good Morning America" Thursday that he had discussed the issue with his wife before making his decision.
"We're part of this community. But at the current time, we're uncomfortable to stand there and say this is okay," he said

 The growing backlash has already prompted the president of the Academy Awards, Cheryl Boone Isaacs, who is black, to take "dramatic steps to alter the makeup of our membership." Actors George Clooney and Lupita Nyong'o have also criticized the lack of diversity among nominees.
